WORLD FRIENDSHIP DAY!

July 30th is World Friendship Day. Here’s how to celebrate it together!

World friendship day!

A day isn’t enough to celebrate friendship, but it’s nice that there is one!
Friendship Day was introduced in 2011 by the General Assembly of the United Nations to celebrate friendship between peoples, build bridges between cultures and support the wellbeing of individuals.
The roots of this day go back much longer, however: a commercial gimmick by the US Greeting Card Association, relaunched more successfully in 1930 by Joyce C. Hall, the famous founder of Hallmark Cards, perhaps the world’s most famous brand of greeting cards.
However it is considered, World Friendship Day is a celebration of an important, splendid value, with a fil rouge that binds us together…all over the world.

Friendship means happiness!

Friendship boosts closeness, empathy and self-esteem. It helps us to understand others – and ourselves – better and to place our trust in our fellows.

Spending time with friends aids the release of dopamine, a neurotransmitter linked to the sense of pleasure.
A hug stimulates the production of oxytocin – the love hormone – and reduces cortisol – the stress hormone - for a positive impact on general wellbeing.

Let’s Share Cooking!

If you have something to be forgiven for, or you haven’t spent enough together recently, this is a fantastic opportunity to do something special.
And why not in the kitchen?

Cooking has positive effects on our mood, all the more so if we do it together!
It relieves stress, develops creativity, helps to improve our self-image and boosts harmony and closeness to others. It’s such a positive, sharing experience that it’s even been adopted as a therapy: Share Cooking Therapy!

Here are our ideas for #FriendshipDay

As a starter: bread crostini with Puttanesca, a classic, traditional Italian sauce, typical of the south and generally served with pasta. It’s quick and easy to prepare, with a few simple ingredients: tomato, capers, black olives, oil, garlic and oregano.

As a one-course meal: a tasty, colourful Risotto with tomato, chickpeas, broccoli mousse and parsley, a modern take on classic Italian risotto.
A light dish, healthy yet packed with flavour, which won’t weigh you down for your afternoon together!
