“Fried green tomatoes” is a 1991-film based on the book “Fried green tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe” by Fannie Flagg.
The film, directed by Jon Avnet, is a drama set in Alabama in the 1930s and stars an all-female cast: Mary Stuart Masterson, Mary Louise Parker and Oscar winners Jessica Tandy and Kathy Bates.

Ingredients for 4 people: 4 green tomatoes, bacon fat, which we can replace with 3 tablespoons lard, 1 cup milk, 2 eggs, 3.5 oz. flour, 3 tablespoons bread crumbs, salt and pepper to taste.
Peel the tomatoes and cut into slices.
Blanching the tomatoes first will help to peel them.
Immerse the slices of tomato in beaten egg and place into the bread crumbs coating both sides, then fry in the pan where you have pre-heated the lard.
Lightly brown the tomatoes and, once cooked, place on straw paper.
Pour the flour in the same quantity of the leftover grease into the pan, pour in the milk and cook the sauce, stirring continuously.
Add salt and pepper, pour the tomatoes on top. Serve hot.
